LaHave?
Voici l’histoire longue.

LaHave? What the? Where the?
LaHave is a small town south-west of Halifax, Nova Scotia. If you’ve never heard of it, don’t worry, I heard of it for the first time when Julie told me we were going there for a day during Crossing Boarders Tour 2010! And why visiting such a small town? Two words: LAHAVE BAKERY. Here’s the long story…

We were first approched by Jesse Watson, proud owner of HOMEGROWN SKATEBOARDS, who has his office and his boards and cuisers’ factory on the third floor of the bakery. It’s really well-organized: he showed us step by step how to make a board, and it was truly interesting. The bakery itself shared the first floor with a crafts store. And what’s on the second floor?

The second floor houses AN AWESOME BOWL, which some locals finished building earlier than expected mainly for us! Jesse invited around 200 to party and skate with us, we had an amazing night! There was a BBQ, we cooked salmon and veggies; there was a live show, and it was so good that some of us bought their CD! We’re so glad we made that little detour to LaHave!
If you want an anectode…I must admit (and Jesse knows!) that I almost burnt the whole bakery.

I can cook at home. I mean, not super fancy dishes, but I don’t burn my toasts! However, I never worked in a kitchen, thus I had never used an industrial oven before. Roux and I were in charge for dinner that day, and she shotgunned the grill. Consequently I was alone baking bread in the bakery for everyone. Honestly, I never thought the oven was that powerful haha! In less than 5 minutes, there was smoke everywhere! Everyone got so scared…and especially Jesse! Luckily Mathilde and Julie rescued me by turning off the oven!

The next morning, a delicious smell of cinnamon bun woke us up. Let me tell you we didn’t sleep in! Breakfast was amazing (and perfectly cooked, because THEY KNOW how to use their industrial oven properly, haha! Thanks so much to Jesse Watson from HOMEGROWN SKATEBOARDS, and all his family and friends that came to party with us. And thanks a lot to everyone who worked at the bakery for having us over, we had an amazing time!

So here it is, the last Crossing Boarders Canada video! Ps. If you ever go to LaHave, you have to stop by LaHave Bakery, it’s worth it!!!!

  1. comment ca ya pas rimouski! Plan 7!

  2. I saw this posted on the HOMEGROWN Skateboards page earlier today… I’ve been skateboarding for 25 years and I’ve always believed that skateboarding is for anyone who wants it. It’s pretty obvious that you ladies want it, and love it. Very stoked on what you’re doing… F@#king rad!

  3. (Hope you had fun in Nova Scotia)

  4. Wow, thanks so much it’s really appreciated!! We do love skateboarding and because we are a group of really good friends that have been sharing the same passion for nearly 10 years, i think that’s how we achieve to make roadtrips and stuff like that, and make videos out of it! it shows people how much FUN we can have together skating :) and so it’s truly rewarding when people are stoked on what we do, thanks again!!!! <3

  5. How could anyone who loves skateboarding NOT be stoked on what you’re doing? I’ve been waiting a long time to see something like what you ladies have going on- skateboarding is about the fun (fun for anyone, regardless of age, race, sex, socio-economic class, whatever) more than anything else, and it showed in your video. Plus, I know that bowl and I know it isn’t easy to skate the first time out… which makes the quality of your footage even radder. I don’t know how else to put it, I’m just stoked. You ladies rip!

  6. I say there is oppurtunity for everybody who wants to skate, I think girl skaters are so cool, keep rippin

  7. the ladys are in the houuuuuuuuuuuuuuse :o
