La tournée Crossing Boarders s’est terminée à Malmö avec une compétition internationale féminine intitulée GET, SET, GO! Des filles de la Grande-Bretagne, des États-Unis, du Danemark, du Canada, du Mexique (allô Renata!) et de plusieurs régions de la Suède se sont déplacées afin de venir y exposer leur talent. La compétition a eu lieu dans le fameux skateparc de Malmö, en parallèle avec le Ultra Bowl II, une coupe du monde de “bowl”. Félicitations à Kevin Kowalski pour avoir remporté la première place!

Crossing Boarders tour ended up in Malmö with an all girls international contest entitled GET, SET, GO! Girls from Great-Britain, USA, Denmark, Canada, Mexico (Hi Renata!!) and from all over Sweden attended the event to show what they’ve got! The contest took place in Malmö’s famous concrete park, the same weekend as the Ultra Bowl II, an international bowl contest. By the way, contratulations to Kevin Kowalski for winning first place!

En ce qui a trait à la compétition de filles, c’est Annie Guglia qui a remporté la première place! Elle s’est mérité un beau chèque et une guitare! Bravo matante!!! Voici les résultats des finales:

Divas Skateras est un groupe de skate féminin provenant du Brésil. Cette année, les filles ont lancé un film que l’on peut entre autres retrouver sur Youtube. Je viens de l’écouter, et c’est vraiment cool de voir à quel point les scènes féminines de skate se développent rapidement, et ce, à l’échelle planétaire. Félicitations à Estefânia Lima pour la réalisation du vidéo!!

Divas Skateras is a group of girls skateboarders coming mostly from Brasil. This year, they released a movie. I just watched it, and it’s amazing to see how fast the feminine skate scene is expanding. Congratulations to Estefânia Lima for the realisation of the film!!!

Crossing Boarders Tour being over (well, at least for the Canadian part), Sarah Meurle is already leaving Montréal tomorrow after spending a few days at my place along with Caroline Farrell. Today, Éloïse came to pick them up in her brand new Westfalia and drove them to Belvedere, a famous montreal skate spot located on top of Mont-Royal. The view is totally awesome up there and Sarah couldn’t leave the city without at least trying a few tricks. Here are a few pics that she took. She also filmed a couple of things, which inspired a short montage. Thanks for the flicks Sarah, and hope you enjoyed your stay in Montréal!

After months of hard work (planning the itinerary, raising funds through many sponsorships, organizing a benefit auction & a car wash), we’re finally packing and getting ready to hop on the bus this after noon for the Crossing Boarders Tour. Sooooooooo exciting! Sarah Meurle arrived from New York this morning but as I am writing those lines, the other girls from No Limit are still on the plane, crossing borders from Sweden to Canada. We will be welcoming them by the end of the after-noon at Montreal airport. Can’t wait!

Je me souviens précisément du moment où je l’ai découvert.  J’errais sur youtube, comme à mon habitude, quand je suis tombée sur ces quelques vidéos féminins qui m’ont laissée bouche-bée.  J’ai donc enquêté un peu plus sur elles et j’ai réalisé qui elles étaient réellement: un groupe d’amies qui partage la même passion et qui veut prouver que les filles ont, elles aussi, ce qu’il faut pour épater la galerie.  Encore mieux, je me suis dit: “elles veulent s’amuser, tout simplement”.

There are certain words with which we associate images, situations, experiences, objects… To me, within the past few years, there is one word that started off as unknown to me and whom now means almost everything.
Skirtboarders.

I remember exactly as I came upon this. I was being my regular me Youtube-ing and such, when I stumbled on a few videos of these girls from Montreal who just left me in awe with their skating. I looked into them more and I realized then who they were: An all girls group mainly sharing the same passion, who wanted to prove and show that us ladies too have what it takes to leave people with their jaw on the floor. Most importantly, I said to myself they just wanted to have fun.

À cet époque, je ne pratiquais pas le skateboard de façon sérieuse. C’était plutôt un passe-temps auquel je me consacrais de temps à autre. Un soir, ma meilleure amie Claudine et moi avons regardé un film de skateboard réalisé par les Skirtboarders, une première pour le skateboard canadian féminin. Ça m’a tellement inspiré, j’ai eu envie de sortir dehors et de faire de mon mieux parce que ces filles venait de devenir ma motivation.

I wasn’t taking skateboarding very seriously at the time, it was more of a past-time and something I enjoyed doing every once in a while. This one time, my best-friend Claudine and I were in amazement because we watched a skate movie created by The Skirtboarders, a first in Canadian feminine skateboarding. I was struck with this intense hype; I wanted to go out there and give it my best shot because those girls were becoming my motivation.

N’importe qui quel membre d’un crew vous dira qu’au delà de l’intérêt commun pour le skateboard, c’est une connexion, une amitié, une famille d’amis qui ferait n’importe quoi pour les autres.  J’imagine que tant qu’on en fait pas partie, on ne peut pas totalement comprendre ce dont je parle…  J’ai la chance de pouvoir partager les plus précieux petits moments de ma vie avec des personnes remarquables.  Je suis la plus récente recrue, mais c’est arrivé si vite que j’ai l’impression de n’avoir encore rien vu!

Cet été, nous partons en tournée.  Les Skirtboarders iront à la rencontre de No Limit, un crew féminin originaire de la Suède.  Ensemble, nous visiteront  plusieurs villes Canadienne & Suédoises pendant 4 semaines.  Les Skirtboarders ont déjà plusieurs voyages à leur actif dont la tournée au Mexique, quelques périples en Californie et autres.  Pour moi, ce sera une première.  Premier voyage de skate et tout ce qui vient avec.  Comment vais-je me sentir?  Loin de chez moi, avec celles qui étaient mon inspiration première, qui m’ont poussée à continuer et qui sont maintenant beaucoup plus que des amies pour moi…  Le décompte est commencé et j’ai du mal à me rappeler la dernière fois où j’ai été si enjouée.

Anybody who hears or is part of any crew would say that it is more than just an interest in skateboarding. It is a bonding, it is a friendship and it is a family of friends who would do anything for one another. I guess you could say that you can’t experience the full ride until you’re part of it… I am gratified for being able to share something as precious as life’s greatest little moments with remarkable people. I am the most recent recruit, and everything has happened so quickly that it gives me the feeling I haven’t experienced anything of what’s coming next…

This summer we’re all going on tour. Us ladies from Montreal will meet up with another all girl crew from Sweden, No Limit, and we will visit different cities in Canada and Sweden for a total of 4 weeks.  The Skirtboarders already have an experience from their trip to Mexico, and from individual visits to California and other places. For me, this will be a first. First skateboarding trip and everything that comes along with it. How will it feel? Being away from home with the people who started off as an inspiration and who stimulated me to pursue what I enjoyed doing, and who now are more than just great friends to me… The countdown is on and it’s difficult  to recall the last time I was this thrilled for something.

Les filles, je vous remercie d’être dans ma vie et je vous remercie pour tout ce que vous avez fait pour moi avant même que je vous rencontre.

• Anne-Sophie: Tu es la première que j’ai rencontrée. Après une courte session au Taz, tu as allumée une étincelle dans ma tête qui me pousse maintenant à skater pour moi et à ne pas m’en faire avec qui me regarde. Merci!

• Mathilde: Tu es quelqu’un d’exceptionnel. Tu travailles tellement fort pour ces filles. Si tu n’étais pas là, les Skirtboarders n’existeraient pas. Tu es déterminée pour ce que tu fais et comment tu le fais. Tu es une inspiration. Tes ribs sont excellentes, tes petites pizzas délicieuses, et il n’y a rien de plus l’fun que de passer une soirée à danser en ligne et rire chez toi. Merci!

• Annie: Mon maitre. Tu es devenue une personne extrêmement importante dans ma vie, que ce soit par rapport au skate ou la vie en général. Tu es une grande amie, tu as une bonne écoute, un bon sens de l’humour et le plus important c’est que tu restes toi-même en tout temps. Toujours de bonne humeur, toujours prête à skater, toujours prête à jammer et à partager tes connaissances musicales. J’apprécie tout ce que tu fais et je vais tenter de mon mieux pour te rendre la pareille. Merci beaucoup! PF n’ NG!

• Éloïse: Ça fait moins d’un an que je te connais et j’ai l’impression que tu fais partie de ma vie depuis des années. On entend souvent ça mais c’est sincère. On a connecté et on s’est comprises dès le premier jour. Tu es devenue une des personnes les plus importantes dans ma vie. Tu m’as beaucoup aidé, beaucoup appris. Tu m’as poussée à aimer ce que je fais et m’a fait apprécié chaque moment. À travers nos hauts et nos bas, tu es toujours là et ensemble, on a prouvé à quel point notre relation est forte. Continue de rêver et n’abandonne pas ton désir d’explorer le monde à bord de ton Westfalia. Reste toi-même. ARIIIIIIIGHT ?! DONNE MOI LAAAA! Merci pour tout.

• Aux autres matantes: vous êtes toutes incroyables! Vous me faites sentir comme si j’avais toujours fait partie de votre univers et ce, de façon naturelle. Je ne vous connais peut-être pas autant que les autres filles mais je ne m’ennuie jamais quand je jase et rie avec vous. Merci de m’avoir si bien accueillie!

Les filles, I’m thankful for having you in my life and for everything you’ve done for me even before we’ve met.

• Anne-Sophie: You’re the first one I met. After one short night session at Taz, you lit up this little spark in my head urging me to skate and to just go for it; to not pay attention to who’s watching and to do everything for myself. Merciiiii !

• Mathilde: You’re someone exceptional, you work so hard for these girls and if you weren’t there in the first place, The Skirtboarders wouldn’t exist. You are determined with what you do and how you do it…  You are an inspiration. Your ribs are great, your little pizzas are tasty and there’s nothing more fun to do than to spend a night square dancing and laughing in your living room. Thank youuuuu !!

• Annie: Teacher. You’ve become someone extremely important in my life whether it is skate-wise or simply life-wise. You’ve been a great friend to me, a great listener, a great humorist, and the most important is that you’ve been yourself the whole time. Always in a good mood, always down to skate, always down to jam or to just relive your musical past with me. I appreciate everything you’ve done and I will try my best to give you what you’ve brought me. Thank you so much. PF n’ NG!

• Eloise: It hasn’t even been a year yet since I’ve known you and I feel as if you’ve been part of my life for years. People say that a lot but it’s true. Since day one we bonded and we understood each other.  You became one of the most important people in my life. You’ve helped me with a lot and you have taught me so much. You pushed me to love what I do and you made me appreciate every moment I live. Through ups and downs we stuck together and proved how strong a fresh friendship can be. Keep your dreams high, and don’t lose your strive to go explore the world in your Westfalia. Stay genuine and true to yourself. ARIIIIIIIGHT ?! DONNE MOI LAAAA! Thanks for everything.

• To all the other Matantes: All of you are incredible. You’ve made me feel as if I’ve always belonged in your world and never had I felt awkward around you. I don’t know all of you as much as the other girls, but never am I bored when I chat and laugh with you guys. Thank you for making me feel welcome.

Derrière chaque photo, il y a une histoire. Derrière chaque mot, une signification. C’est l’histoire des Skirtboarders à travers mes mots. Leur histoire a su m’apporter de l’imagination tout en m’ouvrant bien des portes. Cet été, d’autres mots seront écrits et une nouvelle histoire sera tracée. D’en faire partie veut tout dire pour moi. Non seulement à cause du skate, mais aussi grâce aux amitiés qui s’approfondissent de semaine en semaine. Vous devez savoir, venant d’une personnes de l’extérieur, à quel point vous êtes inspirantes, combien vous m’apportez (inconsciemment) du support et simplement combien vous êtes compréhensives et avez un grand coeur. Pour la deuxième fois de ma vie, je me sens choyée par ce sentiment d’appartenance. Je ne peux que vous remercier mais ce ne serait pas assez. Si ce n’était pas de vous, les choses seraient bien différentes. Vous m’avez apporter un nouveau défis et vous me faites apprécier la vie.

Each picture tells a story and every word means something. This is their story and these are my words. Their story has put imagination in my mind and has opened many personal doors for me. This summer, new words will be written and a new story will be conveyed. Being part of this means more to me than any one of you can think. It’s not just about the skating, it’s also about the friendship and how it progresses as the weeks go by. You need to hear from someone on the outside how inspirational you all are, how you unconsciously bring mental support, simply how kind-hearted and understanding you are. For the second time in my life I feel greeted and I feel part of something. I can only thank you and it wouldn’t be enough. If it wasn’t for you, some things would be different. You have brought me a new challenge and a new enjoyment to my life.

Thanks to everyone who came by Jean Guglia & Fils to get their car washed this after-noon!  I don’t know if it’s because most of the girls were wearing a bikini top but most of our costumers were mans…  Fortunately fort us, the sun was also part of the gang, as you can see in the picture gallery! Once again, thanks to all.  All we have to do now is packing our stuff for the Crossing Boarders Tour that will be starting in less than 48 hours!  Woohoo!!!
